The 7th Edition of the European Film Week in Asmara

This year the festival features a diverse selection of European cinema, including films and animations for children.
The festival will begin in Keren and Dekemhare on the 30th and 31st of October and move to Massawa on the 6th and 7th of November. The main programme will be presented in Asmara from the 14th to 22nd of November in cinemas Roma, Dante and Hamassien.
Audiences will have a chance to enjoy films from all over Europe including Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Finland and the United Kingdom.
The opening film of the European Film Week in Asmara, One Red Eye, comes from Sweden and will be shown in Cinema Roma on the 14th of November. It is a heart-warming and moving story of the relationship between a father and son dealing with their love, as well as the tension between western and Arabic ways of life. One Red Eye has established its director, Daniel Wallentin, as one of the most promising talents of Swedish cinema.
Other highlights of the film week include the Oscar winning thriller Slumdog Millionaire by Danny Boyle; the biggest Bulgarian co-production since the fall of communism, The World Is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner by Stefan Komandarev; Caravaggio, the story of tumultuous and adventurous life of the controversial artist Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio by Angelo Longoni; and Erik Skjoldbærg’s An Enemy of the People, a modern version of the world's most widely read play by the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen.
A special programme for children will be presented each day in Cinema Hamassien. On the 20th November, which marks the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, children’s films will be shown throughout the day in all of the three cinemas in Asmara.
The wide selection of films from around Europe guarantees that viewers of all tastes will find a new favorite.
